To our Veterans - I am grateful, not only for your service - but for a life that I know would not be possible without the selfless sacrifices you have made to protect our freedoms in this country.

I grew up on a small dairy farm in rural Northern Wisconsin (Reeve, WI). My father was a combat engineer in the Korean War - and among the many great things that he taught me while I was growing up (work ethic, mechanics, agriculture and patience) - he taught me gratitude for a life that was possible. A limitless future with the price of this freedom paid in advance by many great men and women before me.

When I was growing up, our small barn was adorned with a draped flag at the entrance. It was a consistent reminder that it is our responsibility to pursuit the endless opportunities that sprawl before us in order to honor those who gave their life so that we may embrace each day as free citizens.

While my father passed away in 2012, his lifelong lessons as well as his love for this country remains entrenched in my daily work and ambitions. This gift of freedom has granted me a successful career as a machinist and now small business owner in this community. The magnitude of this liberty cannot be conveyed with words alone, as I am mindful that there are still many countries in which women cannot practice a trade, let alone start their own machine shop. I am blessed beyond measure, and I know that this privilege comes at a price that many selflessly paid so that I, and many others, can pursuit our aptitudes and aspirations.

This table was the first project that I created when I opened Wrench Wench Worx in 2023. The banner of stars and stripes is hung vertically on this piece - as reminder that every shop, barn and business that proudly displays her from their rafters (including mine) - are able to practice and hone their craft freely because of the warriors who fought beneath her.

With much respect and gratitude,

Jenny Bannink

Jenny is back in the shop and flinging some sawdust at Wrench Wench Worx. Inspired by a backyard project, join our wrench wielding wench on her campaign while she racks up some serious experience points on her CNC router.

If you are interested in purchasing the file that we used for this project, scope out The Chaos Emporium on Etsy. They have incredibly clean and easy to work with vector files - Jenny, Diesel and Clutch give them an enthusiastic two thumbs and four paws up!

CNC Router Project: Roll for Initiative
Ever wonder where all those little fittings on your CNC machine go and how they all work together to keep your machine running smoothly? Curious as to what is under the table and machine casting - and how the heck you are supposed to access these points if you need to do maintenance?

Join us in the shop as Jenny steps through plumbing in new oil lines and how gibs really work (it is MUCH less complicated than you may imagine). Taking the mystery and high tech jargon out of CNC mill maintenance, you will be talking shop like a pro after understanding the simple mechanics of how all the 'slidey bits' on your machine function together.

As always - we LOVE feedback at Wrench Wench Worx (it is how we learn together) - so please do not hesitate to drop in a comment, questions or recommendations.

For a more in-depth technical description of the gib adjustment procedure - check out John Saunders at NYC CNC as fine tunes his mill scientifically:

If you are interested in picking up a Ruby Bench Stone like the one used by Jenny in this video - we highly recommend the Gesswein two sided fine stone for everyday use (not sponsored - we just absolutely love this stone):

Our friend Bob Ross once stated that “You'll never believe what you can do until you get in there and try it.”

At Wrench Wench Worx, we value the spirit of perseverance and curiosity as every happy little accident opens up new experiences and learning opportunities.

With business in an upswing and more high tolerance work flowing into the shop, Jenny is tuning up the CNC team for the epic adventures ahead - starting with Ole's new spindle in this video.

Climb aboard our two foot step ladder as we explore the caverns of Ole's spindle casting and battle our most worthy adversary yet - the dreaded new spindle belt inspiration. (OK....it is really not THAT bad....just awkward and a bit cramped.)

For more thorough and detailed information on Power Draw Bar rebuilds as well as how to check your machine tool for lost motion and backlash - venture over to visit our friend John Saunders at NYC CNC as he tackles both challenges with efficiency and precision in his maintenance series.

Stay tuned later in the week as we take it all off (meaning Ole's table, of course), so that we can explore what lies beneath all that cool cast iron!

Thanks again for joining us and for sending in so many amazing requests, questions and recommendations- we truly are grateful for all of you and love to hear from you!

How The Heck Do I Change Out My R8 Spindle When Bearings Go Bad? How Do I Swap Out My Pulley Belt?
To warm or not to warm....that is the quandary. As a native Wisconsinite, Jenny has a lifetime of experience on the importance of keeping all your essential bits warm- especially during subzero temps. In this episode - she breaks down how warming up your machine tool may be the the missing component in your mission for accuracy and repeatability.

Don't have the luxury of working in a heated shop? No worries - we have been there. Jenny also covers some of those mysteries like coolant/lube maintenance during a deep freeze as well as how to run a spindle warmup program on an encoder-less machine while keeping all of your digits in tact. You are not going to find most of these tips in your textbooks or machine manual - so if you are looking for a few out-of-the-box pointers - you are welcome to drop by the shop, warm up a spell and hopefully enjoy a new take on how to get your equipment primed up for your next big job.

Note from Jenny: My management team (Clutch & Diesel) have just thoroughly berated me for forgetting to mention another one of my favorite tips while shooting this video.

If you need to 'winterize' your machine tool because it is going to bit sitting in an out shed over the chilly season - you may also want to snag a can of BoeShield. Spray this magical potion all over your machine table as well as the castings (and toolholders if they are being stored with the machine). This stuff is boss - and it will save you a lot of rust removal time in the spring, as condensation is not always kind to your ball screw driven friends during the seasonal change.

*I am not sponsored by Boeing - I just happen to REALLY love this stuff! It works great on machine tools - as well as the undercarriage of your vehicle if you happen to spend half the year driving on road salt like we do.

Clutch would also like me to remind you that her friends at the Atlanta Texas Area Spay Neuter Project have a lot of furry companions that are looking for a home - and they do transport to multiple northern regions. Please save a dog from Texas, so that they do not have to live through the disappointment of becoming a Cowboys fan. ;)
